Ten convicted of cyber-bullying targeting Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has found guilty ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A circulating unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their complaint alleges that Owens disregarded any factual proof that refuted her assertions in favour of amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has often echoed these claims on her podcast and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she taught at his high school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
